TOWARDS THE END - SLHC Demo 2008 (San Pablo, Laguna)

One of SAN PABLO LAGUNA's hardcore unit finally released their much awaited demo. 5 songs of pissed off vocals punishing hardcore, guaranteed to make the pit sick! lyrically positive, less on the "tough guy persona" which was normally associated to the laguna scene which is actually a breath of fresh air both musically and lyrically. Click the link and see what i mean, Posse up!

BLACKENED - THIS MEANS WAR (NEW HAVEN, Connecticut )

BLACKENED - THIS MEANS WAR (NEW HAVEN, Connecticut)

BLACKENED seemed to have come out of nowhere, but the truth is that every member of the band has been involved in the independent music community for the last decade and a half. The all-star lineup boasts current and former members of the juggernaut that is HATEBREED (Bassist Chris Beattie and original drummer and founding member Dave Russo) as well as current Connecticut contenders and alum alike, including vocalist Jay Reason (THE DISTANCE) guitarists Chris Legg (FASTBREAK) and Wayne Lozinak (HATEBREED, TWO BY FOUR, YOUTHFUL OFFENDERS). Founded on the terms of combining the roots of traditional hardcore with the sheer brutalness of metal, BLACKENED is quite simply a wrecking ball that is stopping at nothing in its path.

SMOKE AND MIRRORS - FLASH THUNDER (Erie, PA)

SMOKE AND MIRRORS - FLASH THUNDER (Erie, PA)

"Erie hardcore. Ninety-nine out of a hundred of you instantly thought of either Brother's Keeper or xDisciplex AD. While these two groups have since fallen by the wayside, there is still life in the ol' Lake Effect scene. Groups like Jesus Wept, War of Ages, Hank Jones, and Taste the Steel have all made names for themselves and their city in their respective niches of hardcore. Joining them is Erie's latest, Smoke & Mirrors. Comprised of former members of Brother's Keeper, Problem Solver Revolver, Shockwave, and Seven Stitches, Smoke & Mirrors' sound is rooted deeply in the backpack moshing era of the mid-90's. Flash Thunder is a six-song self-released EP (basically a demo) that combines the worlds of 90's metallic hardcore with dashes of post-hardcore and even some of the sing-along craze of the current youth-crew world'

LIVING HELL - THE LOST AND THE DAMMED (Boston/Connecticut, US)

LIVING HELL - THE LOST AND THE DAMMED 2007

‘The Lost and the Damned’ is a metal influenced hardcore album full with anger, hate and rage. Take the typical Clevo Hardcore sound from Integrity and Ringworm and mix it with New York Hardcore. Hard hitting for example is “End of Eternity” and you want to kill people on the monstrous end of “Fall from Grace”. Just like good old Integrity Boston/Connecticut’s Living Hell is shifting a huge pile of solos and melodic guitar parts into their sound (“Parable of a Madman” & “Malleus Dei”)
For fans of INTEGRITY like me, this band is for you! Check em out.

HARM'S WAY - REALITY APPROACHES (Chicago, IL)

HARM'S WAY - REALITY APPROACHES (Chicago, IL)

"Take the ultra-violence of A Clockwork Orange, mixed with the scathing, nihilistic and punishing sounds of Carcass and you'll start to get the idea of what Harms Way is trying to achieve. Continuing the mayhem that began with their first two independent releases, "Reality Approaches" is chaos incarnate played along a soundtrack of chainsaw guitars and machine gun drums. It's a raw, primal and devastating outlook on life coupled with an apocalyptic and furious sound that will leave the listener completely unsettled."

And these guys will give your holy terror bands a run for their money as well,
one of my fave bands today!

HARM'S WAY - IMPRISONED (Chicago, IL)

HARM'S WAY - IMPRISONED (Chicago, IL)

Harms Way came from disfunction. Our only escape was Bo's creative imagination. Caution grew up tough on the streets of Garden Grove trying to survive, but that wasn't Caution. Chris loves all the people, he just hates the evil we can do. 80's metal and 90's emotion groomed us to become a singer and song writer in the 2000's. Hofacker loves the way it feels when its right.

SWAMP THING - IN SHAME (Virginia , USA)

SWAMP THING - IN SHAME (Virginia , USA)

Swamp Thing share a lot of characteristics with fellow contemporary Richmond, VA band Down to Nothing and Maine’s Outbreak. They have the affinity of `80s hardcore that Down to Nothing possesses and have the raspy vocals and the shorter, faster-paced songs Outbreak maintains. This is a simple mixture that pays off well in 13 short, aggressive and lively hardcore tunes. The songs are actually very short. Not like Infest short but, laconic nonetheless. The album clocks in at under 20 minutes, with its longest song being a whopping two minutes and 21 seconds. Though, as stated, the brief song structure matches the style swimmingly.

DIE MY WILL - DISCOGRAPHY (Connecticut, USA)

DIE MY WILL - DISCOGRAPHY (Connecticut, USA)

During the mid and late 90's DIE MY WILL was one one Connecticut's heaviest band which I considered to be one the band that spawned the holy terror genre alongside Integrity, This is also one of the best sellers in the CrossXBlood era. As one of the review goes ..."Die My Will took things to the next level with the release of their And Still We Destroy full length on the previously-mentioned Pin Drop Records. It was on this release that Die My Will attained legendary status in my mind. Pummeling listeners with the transitions between caveman-esque chug parts and intricate, yet disturbingly eerie acoustic pieces, the band set the standard for heavy in their era. As with any great band from their era, the band never received a fraction of the credit in which was due. Even if the band put the recordings out a decade later in which they did (aka now), they would still reign as the heaviest songs known to man. I know that in a previous post I had already labeled Disembodied as the heaviest band ever, but the point is that Die My Will is every bit as legendary as Disembodied amongst this genre; they just never received the credit that was due. I'm hoping that this post will start to reverse this trend if only in the minds of the couple hundred people who read this thing. "

KINGDOM - 9 LIVES (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania )

KINGDOM - 9 LIVES (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania )

Kingdom formed in summer of 2006 with the intent of making pissed off and socially relevant vegan straight edge hardcore. In a scene where bands trade their ideals for merch sales and kids trade their rage for a pair of sneaks, Kingdom strives to maintain the ideas and ethics that lay- however buried- at the foundation of this movement. A few months after forming, they released a 6 song demo/EP on Goodbye Blue Skies records, followed by a 4 song 7" on New Age Records in spring of 2008. Before signing to Eulogy Recordings, Kingdom did 6 US tours (self booked) in their vegetable oil powered bus, and one European tour. "The Rage That Guides" is Kingdom's first full length, featuring 10 songs drawing influence from bands like Buried Alive, Warzone, and Hatebreed, and taking outside inspiration from Nile to Led Zeppelin. "The Rage That Guides" is diverse but still uncompromisingly hardcore. Lyrically taking on issues both political and personal, this record contrasts feelings of hopelessness, suffering, and despair with those of empowerment, hope, and rage. "Real Crime" addresses urban poverty and police violence, "Pythoness" takes on societal double standards and sexual politics, "33/45" is a punk rock anthem for those who choose to live forever out of step. Seething and spiteful, "The Rage That Guides" is a dose of broken glass for a spoon-fed scene.

PULLING TEETH - PARANOID DELUSIONS PARADISE ILLUSIONS (BALTIMORE, Maryland )

PULLING TEETH - PARANOID DELUSIONS
PARADISE ILLUSIONS
Songs like the bruising "Unsatisfied" dig deep to reveal monstrous dirges that rival any doom metal artist. While the Slayer influenced "Bloodwolves" is as volatile and infectious as a song can be. Though the aforementioned songs are truly brilliant works, it is Pulling Teeth's new found mastery of emotional ebb and flow which shines as their real strength. This awe inducing quality is revealed in the stunning two title tracks, "Paranoid Delusions | Paradise Illusions". Collectively both songs are a monumental achievement of soulful guitar work, Moog driven textures, and insightful prose. A near perfect example of how a band can evolve without abandoning the heart and raw energy that defines the "hardcore/punk" genre at its very core.

INCAPACITATE - Live at The Penny Road Pub

INCAPACITATE - Live at The Penny Road Pub
November 22, 2008 - Barrington, IL

Incapacitate rose from the ashes of several Chicago-based Filipino bands who are by now disbanded. A strong passion for extreme music, the four members have been a part of the Filipino underground culture before migrating to the United States. Playing in local bands like Bad Omen, Anal Scream, Aklas, Destruction Of Trust, Sanctum, among others. Music-wise, the band is a maelstrom of various styles. Drawing their craft from Thrash, Grindcore, Crust, Hardcore, and at times Black Metal influences, Incapacitate has developed a sound they can claim their own. Personal faves, the members can list a very diverse collection of artists that don't quite mix well with each other. Slayer, Death Angel, D.R.I., Morbid Angel, Urban Bandits, Mayhem, Bethlehem, Agnostic Front, The Wuds, Madball, Suicidal Tendencies, Earth Crisis, The Jerks, Skinny Puppy, Hatebreed, Merzbow, and Dead Can Dance. Yes you read that right, even Dead Can Dance.

In full support to our pinoy homeboys in the US!
Keep on thrashin!!

HAVEHEART - Discography (Boston, Mass. USA)

HAVEHEART - SONGS TO SCREAM AT THE SUN

Have Heart launched onto the worldwide hardcore scene in 2006 with the release of their debut full-length The Things We Carry. The world of hardcore was caught by surprise, and calling the album “breakthrough” would be an understatement. Reviews were nothing short of flawless, with Punknews.org saying, “It's impossible for words to do this album justice.” The album received multiple “Hardcore Album Of The Year” nods and extensive press recognition such as being named one of AP’s Bands To Know. The band went from a regional hardcore band with a passionate following to Boston’s worldwide hardcore torch-bearers that would play every continent except Africa and Antarctica, selling out shows everywhere with Bane, Ceremony, Verse, Madball, Terror and even playing 50,000 person festivals in Columbia with Coheed & Cambria. So the ultimate question is this-how do they follow up the last two years?

HAVEHEART - THE THINGS WE CARRY

Have Heart- "The Things We Carry" CD- The debut full length from Massachusetts' Have Heart. 11 unrelenting songs full of substance not often found in today's scene. Taking early influences of Chain Of Strength and Turning Point and mixing it with the mid-90's influences of Outspoken and Unbroken-Have Heart has created a record for an era. 27 minutes of pure energy, emotion and intensity.

In preparation for their May 11 tour here in the Philippines,
Check out why they are America's biggest hardcore band
today.

DISTRICT 9 - SCHOOLAHARDKNOX 2007 (Bronx, USA)

DISTRICT 9 - SCHOOLAHARDKNOX 2007 (Bronx, USA)

Being from the Birthplace of Hip Hop Music, and representing an eccletic mix of cultures, District 9 infused AUTHENTIC and Organic hip hop influences into their music years before countless bands attempted to “Rap Metal” their way to the top without a fraction of the style or songwriting ability. Founded by Myke Rivera (Aka Puerto Rican Myke) on the mean streets of the South Bronx, NYC in the Fall of 1994. District 9 formed from the ashes of Myke’s previous metal tinged hardcore band Close Call. One of the key bands in the second coming of New York Hardcore that exploded onto the scene as part of Kevin Gill’s Striving For Togetherness Records (SFT) family of super talented bands. District 9 tore up stages in the New York, New Jersey, and Conneticut area’s and entered the studio to record their debut record “Schoolahardknox” in February 1995 for SFT. District 9 stood apart from the crowd as their incredibly real and powerful lyrics, Catchy yet punishing songs, smoking guitars, street smart rhythyms and their “Straight Out The Bronx” attitude captivated the Underground scene.
